Preface

Well, I will start with a little about me....

I am basically from Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram), the Capital City of God’s Own Country, Yeah Kerala!! I know, as soon as you hear Kerala; Mallu, Communism, Hartals & Strikes will be the first things coming to your mind. But hey! Kerala is also famous for ISRO,Technopark,TCS,Backwaters, Sancturies,NIT,IIMK,…

OK. Enough about Kerala :)

Iam basically an Electrical & Electronics Engineer from the prestigious college of Kerala - College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram[CET] by degree & a Software Engineer by profession. I graduated in 2007 landing up with two software job offers from two MNCs….chose IBM, since it was a better option with a flaky offer in India Software Labs.

Coming to the MBA Preparation journey……

I can say I am a CAT veteran, but more a failed one. Well, the journey began roughly in April-May 2005, when me & my friends started thinking about What next?? . We were just sophomores, not even learned 25% of Electrical Engineering. But somehow, me and couple of my friends like Venki & Vignesh thought, Electrical is not our cup of tea. So what else? Is it Computer Science? Is it Electronics? Is it something else?
One fine morning in the month of April, Venki called me and said his brother’s friend got into Citigroup. Though I had heard a lot about Citi Bank, it was the first time I heard about it as Citigroup. I decided to learn more about it & did a google search. I got the answer -"International financial conglomerate with operations in consumer, corporate, and investment banking and insurance”. I spent half a day reading about citi.
Next day, at college there was a talk on how to crack CAT & get into IIMs. It was organized by ISTE & a senior was talking about the topic. He himself had cracked CAT with 99+ percentile & got into IIM-C. It was at 4:30 PM after the classes. During the lunch time, though the discussion among us started with girls, movies, it slowly moved to the talk that is going to happen & about the guy :) . That was when I first heard about CAT[Common Admission Test] & IIMs[Indian Institute of Managements]. The second thing, I heard was its the toughest exam in the world to crack & its easier to get into Harvard compared to IIM-A
The talk was a nice one, with the guy explaining how he prepared, his interview experience and all. That night, my main thought was how about trying for MBA? Is it for me?
An introvert by nature, the most daunting thought was , is MBA all about speak, speak & speak?. Is it only for those who are good in adzaps & Best manager contests?
I got the answer to these questions within a couple of google search. Its partially YES & NO.
Then I did some research on various specializations one can take during the course. I came to know about pagayguy.com , the paradise for MBA preparation. But I decided to take it & started preparing fro CAT. The journey continued for three CATs, 2006,2008 & 2009; all ending up less than 95%ile
By CAT 2009, I almost lost my self confidence; but decided to write IIMB-PGSEM test for the session starting 2010......

To be continued.....
